Meaghan was called to the bar in 2001 and practices mainly in the areas of environmental law, Aboriginal law and civil litigation. She has argued before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Alberta Court of Appeal and Queen’s Bench, as well as the Federal Court of Appeal. She assists First Nation and Métis clients with consultation activities and traditional knowledge agreements. She also represents them in judicial reviews, civil litigation, Specific Claims, and interventions before administrative tribunals such as the Environmental Resources Conservation Board. Her clients also include land owners whom she represents in contaminated land litigation and judicial reviews from federal and provincial administrative tribunals. Meaghan began her legal career articling with the Alberta Courts of Appeal and Queen Bench. She practiced in the areas of civil litigation and environmental law for 3 years before moving to Ottawa in 2004 to work as a Policy Advisor in a federal Cabinet Minister's office. Following this Meaghan worked for the federal Department of Justice in their Aboriginal Affairs Portfolio, National Litigation Coordination Unit. In this position she gained experience in Treaty issues, constitutional law, Crown law and processes of the federal government with regard to Aboriginal litigation and claims. Meaghan remains active in politics at the federal and provincial levels and also volunteers with other local non-profit organizations.
