After completing his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Lancaster, England in 2007, Ian moved across the pond to Canada. He received his Certificate of Qualification in 2013 from the National Committee of Accreditation, enabling him to practice law in Canada. Ian has been with Ackroyd LLP since 2011. He articled with the firm in 2015 and the team at Ackroyd LLP is proud to have him as an associate.
Ian works primarily for First Nations and Métis communities with respect to matters involving economic development, corporate governance and aboriginal and treaty rights. He assists with re-organizations and structuring of corporations and limited partnerships for Aboriginal businesses, and provides advice on negotiations with respect to joint ventures and commercial transactions. Ian also provides advice on First Nation governance matters with respect to housing policies, bylaws, as well as business and community trusts. He has a keen interest in Aboriginal consultation and accommodation in the context of natural resource project development.
Outside of work, Ian enjoys spending time with his wife, trying new restaurants, scotch tastings, and football (soccer for the non-English folks) with friends and family.
