Environmental Law – Richard was listed as a leading practitioner in the field of Environmental Law in the Lexpert Directory in 2000. In 2007, he was listed as one of Canada’s Best Environmental Lawyers in the National Post’s Best Lawyers in Canada series. He has appeared before various administrative tribunals, including the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board, the Alberta Environmental Appeals Board, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the B.C. Expropriation Compensation Board, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, the Energy Resources Conservation Board, the Environmental Assessment Review Process Panel, the National Energy Board, the Natural Resources Conservation Board and the Surface Rights Board. Civil Litigation – Richard has appeared before the Provincial Court of Alberta, the Territorial Court of the Northwest Territories, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Arbitration and Mediation – Richard mediated the first neighbourhood dispute in Edmonton in 1987 under the auspices of the Edmonton Community Mediation project. He has mediated over 150 commercial, insurance and personal injury litigation disputes. He has also mediated family law, health law, oil & gas and environmental disputes. He has acted as neutral chairman in commercial landlord and tenant and in insurance arbitrations and as sole arbitrator in Canadian Anti-Doping Organization arbitrations. He has also acted as sole adjudicator in a Category II Reinstatement Application, under the auspices of the Canadian Centre for Drug-Free Sport.
Aboriginal Law – legal services to First Nation governments by Richard include litigation of Indian Oil & Gas issues.
